Our Work, Royal Society of Chemistry

Film & animation to communicate complex chemistry

The Challenge

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s ‘Horizon Prizes’ recognise innovative science being undertaken by chemistry scientists globally. Five year’s ago, the RSC decided to showcase the ‘science behind the scientists’, by gifting each of its Horizon Prize winners a multimedia package.

Our Approach

Our challenge has been to communicate complex chemistry in a simple and engaging way.

Collaborating with the RSC, we have scripted and produced a series of short films and animations targeted at professional and lay audiences.

Films are spliced into vignettes for use across social media, providing a simple and effective way for scientists to tell their stories. University marketing teams and public engagement teams make use of the films as part of their recruitment and marketing activity.

The Results

To date, we have produced over sixty films for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Horizon prize winners which you can see here

It can be tough to get scientists to explain their work in layman’s terms.  Sciad’s professional approach and storytelling ability has made this happen. We have been impressed with the end-result and thoroughly enjoy working with the team.
