Our Work, Antibiotic Research UK

Reputation and impact

The Challenge

How can a charity increase its impact?

Antibiotic Research UK was the UK’s first charity tackling the problem of antibiotic resistance. While already well regarded among scientists working in the field, the charity needed to raise its profile and income to deliver on ambitious plans to expand its scientific grant-giving programme and patient support services.

Our approach

We worked with the charity to develop campaigns and messaging to communicate the importance of antibiotics and their role in modern medicine.

We created a series of public-facing campaigns, wrote and distributed press releases, liaised with the media, created videos, wrote blogs, and ran social media across Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

We created brand guidelines and award applications to help with future marketing.

The results

  • We achieved extensive coverage, including mentions in top-tier national media such as The Sunday Times, Sky NewsThe FT and The Telegraph in 2022 alone. Additional coverage included mentions in The Evening Standard, New Scientist, the Mail Onlinei News and many regional and trade press and radio outlets.
  • Social media following grew across all platforms and helped to drive traffic to landing pages.
  • Subsequent National Lottery funding and an award from BioNow means that Antibiotic Research UK now has a larger influence on the future of antibiotic research, and can support more people suffering from antibiotic-resistant infections.

Sciad has been wonderful to work with. They come up with new ideas and have helped position the charity as the voice of authority in the press. Our fundraising campaigns and unsolicited donations have benefited from their support, and we have been more effective as a result.
