Falmouth, UK, 8th March 2021 / Sciad Newswire / Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) has partnered with sustainable period care brand, TOTM, to provide all its employees access to period products in the workplace and remove the stigma around menstruation.

UNICEF has identified period poverty as a key human rights and public health issue affecting the physical and mental well-being of people who menstruate worldwide. WMFTG has recognised the physical health risks of poor menstrual hygiene and the negative mental health impact of ‘period shame’. The Executive Team has therefore decided to take affirmative action and has joined the TOTM Period Dignity Workplace Scheme in order to provide free period products to all WMFTG colleagues.

The TOTM Period Dignity Workplace Scheme began in 2018, offering a self-service solution that’s easy to manage and replenish to help organisations adopt an employee period care provision. The scheme includes a range of sustainable, Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified organic cotton period products and zero waste reusables to best support employees’ needs as well as supporting Binti International, a charity which aims to create a world where all have menstrual dignity.

Many people cannot afford menstrual products and although some countries are lifting the tax on period products or putting legislation in place to offer free period products, it remains a form of gender-based discrimination in many places. In order to ensure its global team has access to the facilities they need to thrive, WMFTG has joined the TOTM Period Dignity Workplace Scheme to provide their workplace boxes in office and factory cloakrooms, worldwide.

Amanda Capon, Global HR Director at WMFTG, commented, “We’re working to create environments where everyone can thrive, so removing obstacles that may be invisible to a lot of the organisation is a simple way to have a significant impact. I am really proud to work for an organisation that, although majority male in numbers, is keen to engage with such issues without question. As an organisation, we are wholly committed to reducing our impact on our planet, and as such it was only natural for us to join a scheme that provides products from sustainable sources that are disposed of responsibly.”
