SynBioBeta Announces Lean Launch Legend Steve Blank and the Silicon Valley Roundtable
London, UK 25th March 2014 – The SynBioBeta London 2014 Conference announced today an extended program for Wednesday 2nd April which will begin with a special presentation of The Lean Launchpad for Biotech, presented by the Father of the Lean Launch and Startup Guru Steve Blank and will also include a Silicon Valley Roundtable.. This will be an extension of the second annual conference at the Imperial College London featuring a mix of panel discussions and talks from startups, industry players, investors and partners in the growing synthetic biology ecosystem. The conference is in conjunction with the new Synthetic Biology Innovation and Knowledge Centre at Imperial College SynbiCITE.
In 2013, Forbes called Steve Blank one of the 30 most influential people in tech. Steve will talk about his experience applying the Lean Launchpad to the Life Sciences at the University of California San Francisco.
Immediately following will be a special Silicon Valley Roundtable, Moderated by Una Ryan, OBE, Chair of the Bay Area Bio Economy Initiative with speakers including Steve Blank of Stanford, UC Berkeley, Jerry Engel of UC Berkeley, Karl Handelsman of Codon Capital and Kinkead Reiling, Co-Founder of Amyris.
After the presentations, there will be a Welcoming Reception with an Opening Keynote presented by Rt Hon David Willetts MP, Minister for Universities and Science, UK Government.
“The UK government has identified synthetic biology as one of its eight great technologies to invest in and with our panel of tech industry veterans we’re bringing a bit of Silicon Valley to London for the opening evening of the meeting” said John Cumbers, Ph.D, architect of the SynBioBeta conference.
Like its successful counterpart last year, SynBioBeta Activate! at The 6th International Conference on Synthetic Biology (SB6.0), the conference will provide plentiful networking opportunities beginning with the Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening, throughout the conference with extended breaks, and at the Cocktail Reception immediately following the conference on Thursday 3rd April.
Supporters of the conference include SynbiCITE, Autodesk, On-Point Capital, as well as UK Trade and Investment, Technology Strategy Board, PLOS, Integrated DNA Technologies and Gen9.
What is synthetic biology? Synthetic biology is the design and construction of biological devices and systems for useful purposes. It is an area of biological research and technology that combines biology and engineering, thus often overlapping with bioengineering and biomedical engineering.
