Sciad attends Med-Tech Innovation Expo

At Sciad, we’re passionate about learning about the latest scientific developments and enjoy attending industry events to keep up to date. Last month, I attended Med-Tech Innovation Expo at the NEC, Birmingham, with my colleague Darya. The event, which ran from 8-9th of June, hosted over 100 exhibitors across the medical and healthcare sectors. Designers, engineers, manufacturers and innovators were all brought together to explore new ideas, understand emerging technologies and source advanced products and services.
As the show kicked off, the atmosphere was buzzing with conversations of collaboration and fresh ideas. We had the pleasure of speaking to Meekee Kok, Business Development Manager of gliff.ai. From Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), imaging is vital in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and biomedicine sectors. The combination of imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful tool to get the most out of the resulting data. gliff.ai offers secure, low-code/no-code machine learning operations (MLOps) tools to make developing an imaging AI as simple as possible.
Also related to medical assessment, we spoke to Dr Yolanda Hill, Business Development Manager at Neuronostics. Spun out of the University of Exeter in 2018, Neuronostics developed BioEP (Biomarker of Epilepsy), which is a seizure susceptibility assessment technology that can provide objective support to clinicians enabling faster and more accurate diagnosis and prognosis of epilepsy. BioEP works by transforming short segments of a routinely acquired electroencephalogram (EEG) into a mathematical model of the brain. Computer simulations of the model provide a proxy for seizures, rapidly revealing the susceptibility of an individual to seizures.
